We’ll take you through the process of designing your own special piece of jewellery step by step, offering knowledge, expertise and advice throughout. Whether you’re after an engagement ring, birthday present, or gift to yourself, we’ll start with a simple conversation.
We’ll find out what you’re looking for – don’t worry if you’re not sure, we’ll help with that, too – talk about what you like and don’t like, which gemstones or diamonds work best, and choose metals to suit the design.
It’s a lovely process and we look forward to helping you create a piece of bespoke jewellery that you or your loved one will cherish for a lifetime.
Our first chat is to get to know you a little, and find out what you’re looking for. We’ll ask about the kind of jewellery you like and dislike, discuss timescales, budget, how the process works, and any other thoughts and questions you may have. We can help you formulate your ideas, too.
This is the creative part. We transform ideas from the consultation into a detailed presentation with mood boards, showcasing different designs to appeal to your style. We also share our diamond and gemstone expertise with you to help you make a decision. We’ll talk approximate costings, too.
Once you have had time to browse the presentation and mood boards, we will discuss the characteristics of each piece, allowing you to examine your choices and tell us what you like and what you don’t. Together, we’ll choose the winning design – always an exciting moment – and finalise adjustments and personalisation options.
Once you’ve selected your final design, we source the stones and begin to make your jewellery, closely overseen by our qualified diamond and gemstone expert Roshan. He lives and breathes fine jewellery and will ensure your tailormade jewellery design is carefully sourced and perfectly crafted.
Once your bespoke jewellery has arrived back at Alicia J HQ, we run a final quality check and ensure it is beautifully boxed and packaged – complete with accredited diamond or gemstone reports and care instructions – before sending to you to enjoy forever.
We provide every customer with a complimentary valuation from a recognised and licensed jewellery professional in the UK, plus relevant gemstone reports and care instructions. An added Alicia J benefit is that our valuations tend to be higher than the purchase price, as we have lower operational costs than many other jewellers.

What colour is a diamond? Many say they’re colourless, however, look closely and most contain subtle tints of yellows, soft pinks and rich browns. Truly colourless diamonds are known as white diamonds and are extremely rare and the most valuable. Diamond colour is graded from D to Z – D being the whitest, most colourless diamond and Z containing noticeable yellow, brown or pink tints. The letters D to Z represent a range of colour based on a combination of tone, lightness or darkness and saturation.
Cut
Diamond cut refers to the arrangement of a diamond’s facets. A diamond’s cut is often mistaken as meaning its shape (oval, pear, etc), but a diamond’s cut grade is actually about how well the facets interact with light.
Polish
Polish refers to the overall smoothness and condition of the diamond’s surface. It’s rare for a diamond to have a perfect polish. More often, they have tiny imperfections not visible to the naked eye.
Symmetry
Symmetry refers to how well-aligned the diamond's facets are. Symmetry, on the other hand, refers to the exactness of shape, overall outline, placement and alignment of individual facets.
The gradings provided by the GIA go from poor to excellent. If you select an SI clarity, we will provide Very Good cut, polish and symmetry. If you select a VS1 clarity, we will provide Excellent cut, polish and symmetry.
